I walked past Green Lane Garage (to give it its proper name) every day for five years between 1965 and 1970 and had totally forgotten they sold Triumphs* so thanks for reminding me Stewart
*Mostly 1300 and 2000 saloons.
Sadly the showroom has since been replaced with a block of yuppie-style flats

I think you're getting confused!
Newsome's, the Triumph dealers, were Highway Garage, corner of Leamington Road - now Robins & Day, Peugeot dealers
Green Lane Garage, which also owned Windmill Garage on Dunchurch Highway, was the one by the railway bridge on Kenpas Highway, now the flats to which you refer |

Thank you for all the information and the kind welcome. Upon consulting my father a bit more he tells me the following.
His father did indeed set up the business with 'Charlie Payne' whose son also worked there. The big building at the rear was a flour mill and the building next to the garage that has 'Optician' on it was originally part of the garage, being a showroom. The garage premises extended up the side of the showroom and round into a back yard where they used to hold motor auctions on a Saturday morning. I have also unearthed the remains of an old invoice book!

Not that one - I'm sure there was a car dealer the station side of the ring road. The showroom had full length glass windows though I cannot remember if it was the station side of Warwick Road or by the Tax office? |

The only other car dealer I can recall in the vicinity was Queens Road Garage (Percy Blamire) which sold Rover, Triumph and Ford |

I'm pretty certain the one you are referring to Neil, as zigzag said, is Parkside Garage. |

Yes, it was definitely 'Parkside Garage', it was on the left of Warwick Road (on the station side), it did have full length glass windows, and it should have had net curtains hanging in them such that anybody passing would not be scared by some of the junk that was on sale there. |

Certainly was Parkside Garage, Warwick Road, in 1930
Four years earlier they were actually in Parkside
Whether there was another garage on Warwick Road before Parkside went there I don't know |

Thanks to all for the info. I shall follow up on the records office lead and seek a heritage certificate. The photo of the car at Doncaster was very interesting and I have contacted the organisers for more details.
Renewed thanks to everyone. What a helpful site this is!

Yes the building on Warwick Road. We, shall we say "removed" it in the early 80s. I remember the job well
