Attended until 1981. It certainly didn't prepare me for entry to Caludon Castle!
It had the usual mix of teachers; some good and some terrible.
Elocution lessons. How fancy! |

There's a news article about Florence Cattell (71 Bray's Lane) in the Coventry Evening Telegraph (Tuesday, 23rd of April 1968):
"School Founder.
Another sprightly 90 year old is Mrs. Florence Cattell, the founder of Stoke Lodge School. She lives at 71, Brays Lane, Stoke, and celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday.
Sixty years ago she started classes with six pupils in the front room of her home at 15, St. George's Road. The School developed and later moved to Stoke Lodge.
Mrs. Cattell retired 30 years ago, but she keeps busy and every Sunday she attends the Christadelphian Hall, Grosvenor Road, both morning and evening."
The above appears in the Cattells thread on the forum

I was born in Coventry (1948) attended Stoke Lodge before emigrating to Canada in 1954 then USA in 1956. My teacher arranged a pen friend for me with whom I corresponded for several years. I have often wondered what happened to Rosemary Iris Brotherwood. She lived on Daventry Rd in Coventry. Carol A Younkin

Hi Carol,
The Brotherwoods were a teaching family, residing at 303 Daventry Rd. My last contact was in 1968, when Mr Brotherwood was quite poorly.

Hi folks,
Now I have reached an appreciable age I've started writing...
I attended Stoke Lodge school from 1968 to 1974.
For some years we took part in a singing and prose competition against other (private) schools and I particularly remember singing about Noah's flood and reciting the David rock....that one year, 1974 we actually won both categories in the competition.....we packed out a double decker bus back to school, singing Queens "We are the champions" the whole time at full volume! Does anyone else remember this? Does anyone remember any more detail? Question Clare

I think we performed Captain Noah and his Floating Zoo while I was there, circa 1973 or 1974. But I'm afraid the school made me utterly miserable.
