Really interesting to read - cheers for the link.Typical City though. 'The first match was against Coventry Association FC and ended in a 9-0 defeat.'

I have been a Sky Blues fan since 1963 and a season ticket holder for the last ten seasons, but last season was the last straw for me after the way the fans were treated by the board and owners. Going back to when we signed Danny Fox and Scott Dann, the board said "These players are bought for the future and we're going to build a team around them." Unfortunately, a year later both of those players were sold for a big profit. That was the signal that we were going nowhere with Sisu in charge. |

Mr Blue Sky, we ate at the top table for many years with the big boys, some could say we over achieved, but we managed to ruffle their feathers on plenty of occasions.
Highfield Road wasn't the easiest of places to come and get a result, I can't remember getting soundly beaten too many times (Liverpool 1-6 in the late 80s/90s).
But somehow in an effort to compete at a higher level, decisions made in the 90s didn't come to fruitition. We got too big for our boots and got burnt badly.
Our demise after relegation from the premiership illustrated that we had not formulated a sound business strategy in an effort to return to top flight football and the rest, as they say, is history.
It is my belief that our time will come again, but sadly, we haven't reached rock bottom yet and thus the long painful decline will continue.

I never forgave Jimmy Hill for selling Terry Bly and started a one-boy poster campaign to bring him back!
I wasn't alone in that opinion either apparently: LINK

You must admit though dutchman, George Hudson wasn't a half bad replacement!! In my humble opinion, 'The Hud' was the greatest centre forward to play for the Sky Blues in the modern era. |

Now then Beesy, you've started a debate that could run and run.
There are a few candidates for "the greatest centre forward", I'll not argue with your choice, he was exceptional.
A friend of mine was telling me that when he visited George a couple of years ago, he was taken aback by how revered he was to this day. |

Would agree about George Hudson, he was a special talent. If I recall, Jimmy Hill sold him to Northampton, and I believe the story goes, that he had a game for Northampton Reserves, and thousands of City fans went to see him.
Who would have been your favourite City player?
I watched them, from about 1955 til the mid 60's, when Naval duties and girlfriends took me away.
I would always say George Curtis, because of his longevity, his consistency, and these days I believe that he would have probably played at a higher level.
Lots of good players in second place, would be very hard to choose.
Brian Hill, Ray Clements, Ken Satchwell, Reg Matthews, Roy Kirk, Ken Hale etc., I think that they have had a lot of good players in their time. |

Starting to get very concerned about the latest Ricoh situation.
"One report has suggested that Coventry, who averaged 15,000 gates in the Championship last season and are still bringing in almost 10,500 on average in League One, might even consider a 90-mile round trip for home games at the 6,500-capacity Nene Park, home of the now disbanded Rushden & Diamonds and latterly Kettering Town."
Playing anywhere outside of the city in someone elses' ground will be the death of the club IMO. |

The Ricoh situation is a shambles.
If I defaulted on my rent/mortgage payments for over a year, I couldn't 're-negotiate' the rental terms, I'd be out on my ear.
The same must apply to the owners at CCFC, who, in my opinion, are just after the money. The fans deserve better, and I echo many sentiments here, you should NEVER have left Highfield Road. |

Ace, I agree it's all a shambles. But the situation is very different from someone's rent/mortgage on their house. If you default on your rent, the landlord will kick you out and let to someone else. SISU know full well that if CCFC were to leave the Ricoh, there will be no new tenants waiting to move in, at any price. So they are playing hardball, knowing they have ACL over a barrel. Bringing in the Nene Park option is just another bargaining chip, there is no real chance of it actually happening.
I do agree that we should never have left our spiritual home. But it was all down to the pie-in-the-sky ideas of one Bryan Richardson, who envisaged a huge stadium with a sliding pitch and roof. There was a model of it in the boardroom. But of course it never happened. The ground was sold under very dodgy circumstances and the money seemed to disappear. So we never got to own the new stadium. It was a shambles which has never been investigated nor explained.
Remember, too, that it was the previous board of McGinnity, Robinson, Elliott & Co who negotiated the £1.2m p.a. rent, not SISU. I do worry that they may eventually decide to cut their losses and bale out, leaving a pile of wreckage where the club used to be! |

That is very sad news indeed. Peter lodged just across the street from us for a couple of years during his Sky Blue hey-day, and was (and probably still is) a lovely chap, as well as a fantastic talent. I'm sure we all wish him well. |
