Interesting finds Midland Red Thumbs up The 1947 illustration looks more than little fanciful as the premises were being shared with Marks & Spencer at the time. I've never associated Brandish with motorcycles before due to the proximity of Fretton's. Those televisions made in Coventry are probably the only true GEC sets because as far as I can tell they were all made by the Sobell factory in Wales after 1957 and then rebadged as 'GEC'.

Excellent find Foxcote! Thumbs up but that's actually the Glover Brothers garage on the corner of Windsor Street and Trafalgar Street Smile 'Warwickshire Tyre and Car Sales Ltd' was at the north end of Windsor Street close to the junction with Spon Street and Barras Lane. It occupied a long stretch of road just to the right of the butcher's shop in this picture: Pictures of Coventry

Thanks for clarifying that Dutchman Wave I was actually clicking through the photos from the 'Transport' selection on Pics of Coventry and found it. I didn't think I had spotted that particular one before on the Street Search, so I checked and searched for Windsor Street and it didn't show up, so maybe someone should check through the 'Transport Photo selection' on there, in case I have missed any other interesting ones.

59 guineas was a lot for a TV at the time, hence the overwhelming popularity of the Bush TV22 at 'only' £36-2s-6d, still a considerable sum of money. Mods note : for our younger readers, 59 guineas was 59 pounds and 59 shillings, in other words, £61.19s.0d Oh my

I hadn't seen it before either Foxcote and one of the entries for 'Windsor Street' looks more like Trafalgar Street to me? Roll eyes Incidentally Foxcote, the underground petrol storage tanks at Glover Brothers Garage are still in place, buried under what is now the access road for the flats. They cost too much to dig up and move so the council just built over them! Big grin The garage itself traded right up until 1967 when the council flats were built.

My aunt bought me a bike for my 15th birthday from Whitefriars St. It was a Hercules Kestrel in polychromatic gold. It had a reversible rear wheel, free wheel on one side and a fixed cog on the other. It was made from Reynolds tubing and at the time it was sold for the princely sum of £14 pounds and 5 shillings.

Of course Armstrong Siddeley cars were made at Parkside in the City, at the factory previously called Siddeley Deasy and latterly Rolls-Royce. There exists an Armstrong Siddeley Owners Club to this day who regularly display their vehicles at shows and suchlike. A lot of information including a book about the history of the company can be accessed/obtained from the Rolls-Royce Heritage Trust. Incidentally, when the factory was demolished the original Board Room, its furniture, including all its panelling, was salvaged and rebuilt in the RRHT Museum!
