I take it he wouldn`t be able to blow a whistle when wearing a gas helmet

Emlyn Hughes joins Jim Holton, landlord of The Stag in Bishop Street, to celebrate the reopening of the refurbished pub. For several years former Sky Blues player, Jim, had run the Rising Sun in Spon Street - he sadly died the following year, 1993.

Coventry celebrates VE Day. Rationed food has been saved up to allow for a decent feast.

Great pic of the Precinct MR, just a year before we came out here, when the ladies used baskets instead of plastic bags like they do now! Having said that, two of our most popular large supermarkets have banned all plastic bags now from June, so maybe the jolly old shopping baskets will be in vogue again.

A Mobile Canteen was presented to the City of Coventry by Mrs. H. H. Harley, wife of the managing director of Coventry Gauge and Tool Co., Ltd, after an idea proposed by Councillor Pearl Hyde.

During the War of the Roses Margaret of Anjou and the Prince's new widow, Anne Neville, were brought as prisoners to Coventry and delivered to Edward IV.
(There we are again - more rubbing shoulders with royalty - the sort of amazing history that the City of Culture team really should be paying more attention to.) |
