dave owens california usa	646 of 713 Sun 18th Jul 2021 7:35pm I attended nearly every home game through the 60s as a boy, enjoyed the rise of the Jimmy Hill teams and I thought George Curtis was a man mountain. It didn't matter who the centre forward was that day George could deal with them. He should have won caps for England. The physical nature of game back then demanded centre halfs to be as tough as nails, and they didn't come any tougher than George. Thanks for the memories George, rest in peace.

JohnnieWalker Sanctuary Point, Australia	649 of 713 Mon 19th Jul 2021 8:01am Apart from all the "normal" skills of a great centre half, I remember the freaky way that he would run towards a high ball, take it on his chest and take it forward, almost "glued" to his chest. Impossible to take the ball off him, without an obvious foul. Eventually, gravity would have the ball drop to his feet and then, of course, he could distribute it (e.g.. kick the sh*t out of it!) to his forwards. George Curtis and Jimmy Hill were "made for each other" and were profound influences on the pride in being Coventry people in the 1960s! I was privileged to see almost all of George Curtis's playing career. Then (one dark night!) I got up at 2am to watch the FA Cup Final, and shed a few tears of joy in that early Australian morning, taking as much pleasure in watching the Sky Blues management up in their "VIP's box" as I did in watching their team win the game on the pitch. Funnily enough, just writing this post brought tears to my eyes! RIP George Curtis! True Blue Coventry Kid

When George moved to Allesley Park I ended up going to school with his youngest daughter and from that my mum became closest of friends (and remains to this day) with George's wife Inger. RIP to a Sky Blue legend.

Slash1 northampton	653 of 713 Wed 21st Jul 2021 6:08pm George was not only a brilliant centre half, as well as a brilliant captain, he was a brilliant and lovely man. For most of his playing days, he lived in a club house, where Roy Kirk (another colossus of a man) had lived before him, on the corner of Clovelly Road and Torcross Avenue. Living in the area, we passed his house a lot. If ever he was working in his garden, he would always be happy to stop what he was doing and answer our questions. I always thought, Mr Coventry City to people of my time, 1955 until late 1960's. RIP lovely man.

To suffer a broken leg at that point in his career was heartbreaking!!!

Midland Red	659 of 713 Fri 3rd Dec 2021 2:50pm Just watched "60 minutes with Gary McAllister" on LFC-TV, and found his comments about his £3million transfer from Leeds United to the Sky Blues in 1996 interesting. Aged 31, captain of Leeds United and Scotland, it was a surprising transfer. Gary Mac states it was purely a financial move, one to set up him and his family. City's offer was so good that he actually asked Leeds for half of what he'd been offered, to stay at Elland Road, and they refused to pay him that amount. He also found the idea of meeting up with Ron Atkinson and Gordon Strachan at Highfield Road attractive.
