I don't remember going to watch the City much, but one game I did go to was a youth match vs Tottenham. A very young Graham Souness was sent off for decking Mick Kearns

Hi Mick. I was there too. Souness did get sent off for hitting someone but it wasn't Mick Kearns - he'd retired by then! It was Dennis Mortimer. In years to come they would both captain European Cup winning teams. And the Coventry goalkeeper was David Icke.

It was the first replay (or maybe the second leg), the second replay was at Spurs. City lost 1-0, but Souness was denied his winner's medal as he'd been sent off in a previous game. Shame! Don't know why he wasn't suspended for the second replay.

Have SISU dropped their legal actions? I understood that this stopped any deal going through previously. And don't forget SISU have reneged on previous agreements when playing at The Ricoh. Love City, hate SISU.

On this day 1968, City beat Manchester United for the first time in top flight football at a fire ravaged HR, 2-0. Scorers Machin and Setters. I was looking forward to watching the 'Holy Trinity'- Best, Law Charlton, but didn't get to see us beat the eventual European Cup winners that season (Law didn't play that day), my sister got married.... to a Manchester United fan!! So instead of rattling my rattle and stuffing my face with pop and crisps up the city, I was having to be all grown up at the wedding reception held at the wonderful Art Deco The Fletch which commenced at.... bang on kick off time. Pah!!!!!! I recall we used to kick off our home games on a Saturday at 3.15pm fifteen minutes later than most other fixtures. Was that to enable large numbers of factory workers that worked on a Saturday to get to the match in time?

Here's something I posted earlier today on another forum: 1968 Saturday League Division 1 Coventry City 2 Manchester United 0 HT 1-0 Att: 47,111 Coventry: Glazier; Bruck; Cattlin; Machin; Setters; Clements; Hannigan; Hunt; Martin; Tudor; Carr. United: Stepney; Brennan; Burns; Crerand; Sadler; Stiles; Fitzpatrick; Kidd (Aston); Charlton; Best; Herd. At the time of the Munich Air Disaster Coventry were languishing in Division 3 South, and the following season were in the newly-created Division 4. Ten years, and three promotions, later we were reigning Second Division Champions and were playing a League fixture against United, the reigning First Division Champions. Earlier in the month Coventry's main stand was destroyed by fire, but the attendance for this match was the club's second highest official attendance. Coventry entered the match in 20th position, one place above the relegation spots; United were second. Chris Cattlin (from Huddersfield) and Ernie Hunt (from Everton) were making their debuts. Goals from Machin (34) and Setters (52) gave Coventry an unexpected two points. Setters' goal as his only one for Coventry that season, and it was against one of his former clubs. We were not to know it at the time, but this match defined both clubs' seasons: the two points Coventry gained meant Sheffield United, not us, were relegated. And if United had given us a beating, like the 4-0 earlier in the season at Old Trafford, then they would have finished as champions, not Manchester City. And it was one of half a dozen or so matches I saw George Best in the flesh, and he gave his usual mediocre display. I know he could do great things (I've seen them on TV) but, in my humble opinion, he is one of the most overrated players in my lifetime.

Thank goodness for that, because the fields opposite our house were earmarked for their new stadium!!

Hi MR Is there any evidence that SISU have even been serious about building a new stadium? As far as I know, no local authority has ever admitted that they have been approached by SISU for planning permission. If only they'd bought the Ricoh like the Wasps had the gumption to do, instead of trying to bankrupt the previous Ricoh owners so they could pick up the stadium cheaply from the liquidators. Sad and Angry
