It's like this officer, my horse was sick and we had a real big chicken at home, so big it could pull my cart. So I hitched it up and it was fine but it now looks like my big hen's gone, lol, hope you found it funny. Colin Big grin

Thanks everyone for the funnies ! It was rather obvious wasn't it. Running out of horsepower. It makes you wonder what happened to the horse. They say a picture paints a thousand words. Thanks again. Big grin Big grin Big grin Big grin

There are at least two horses missing from the photo and the explanation is quite simple. The picture required a very long exposure and a horse could not keep still that long so they were removed from view to avoid a "ghost image" appearing such as that of the passing lad. Smile The two figures in the foreground have obviously been posed.

Joseph Wingrave - whose chemist shop can be seen in the picture - was one of the great pioneers of early photography. We are extremely fortunate that he chose to live here: Joseph Wingrave

Yes, I have seen that photo of him before. I can honestly say I think I enjoy viewing his old photos the most. His street scenes are always interesting, thank you for that Dutchman. Actually, if you go back to the old photo do I see the two back legs of a horse between the wheels? What else could they be. Thumbs up

Was that an intended pun, Dreamtime? Calling Dutchman Cleverclogs? Dutchman from Holland, clogs. Get it? Thumbs up

From what I can see, Band Hatton shared no.8 High Street with United Counties Bank Ltd, so I would imagine that the present Yorkshire Bank building which you will find on Google Street View will be where your great-grandfather will have worked Thumbs up
