I am getting confused but that date MR would make more sense. Alice Middleton's shop in the picture was 3 Trinity Street until about 1961/62 when she moved to Ironmonger Row. I should imagine the building site in front of the shop in the picture is the preparations for that. There is nothing special in the newspaper for 1955 relating to this are apart from Owen Owen celebrating being open for 1 year and having a sale. If you search on here for Alice Middleton you will find It has been discussed under several topics including Palmer Lane. Perhaps just a normal day shopping in Coventry when the sales were on!!

MR So this guy was allowed to climb on Owen Owens six months before it opened and take photo's, was that allowed? Who was he? I'm intrigued.

Thanks Annewiggy Still, find it hard to believe the old Owens basement was still there, but there you go, hidden behind a high wall of wood. I suppose so.

One thing I do know, I had shopped a few times at Alice Middleton's and that was without rationing. Blouses, underwear and all the frillies you care to mention. (late 50's) - That's at the shop shown in the photo.

Another good one Prof, our first TV was bought from Sutton & Jones on the corner there. I well remember the rest of those shops.
