Thanks for pulling all these photo sites together. Some great stuff here. I wonder if it might be useful to have it as a tab on the main site, so it is more visible as a hyperlink list of photo sites. I'd forgotten how big the old GEC telephone works was. I visited it on business in the 70s and 80s. Huge place. Hard to imagine it is all now flattened. What a lot of industry we have lost over the years. The other pictures I enjoyed were the ones of old Coventry streets in the 50s, all those old terraces with top shops (English Heritage ViewFinder). One shot that was particularly familiar was the old houses opposite the Technical College. The Butts I cycled past them every day on the way to school. In the late 50s families still lived in them and I saw the children by the front doors and playing in the tiny front gardens. It looked pretty basic. Within a couple of years they were being pulled down and all the streets of similar houses behind. They weren't great buildings, and often the workmen could tie a rope round part of it and pull it down by hand, followed by a huge cloud of dust. This whole series of photos taken just over 50 years ago couldn't be more different from the modern Coventry of today. It was another world.

There is a 'Web Links' tab on the left, it's 5th up from the bottom, this contains some of those links in the above posts in that tab, hope this helps Smile

Just had a quick look at the tab. Superb! Don't now where to start! This website is a goldmine. As you say most of the photo sites are there, but didn't see the English heritage one, but that could be me. Thanks
Hugh

Hi All, I have just been looking on 'Britain From Above', I am sure they have put more views of Coventry on since I last looked. On the second page of the Coventry Search, I found really clear views of Corporation St, Radford Road and loads more factories that I haven't seen. Unless I hadn't looked at the second page before Roll eyes

Many thanks for the headsup Foxcote, I'm drooling over it right now! Lol Note the Dutch-style buildings in Queen Victoria Road. The big one in the middle is the Salvation Army hall.

The Corporation Street imagery is fantastic. I strongly urge anyone with the slightest emotion for Coventry register on the site to enable image zooming. The amount of buildings that no longer remain is truely staggering. Our city was one big film set. Oh my Sad Big grin

It's an indoor sports hall, pavilion of some kind. I think it eventually became a students union building?

Another member, Thomas Farndon, has drawn my attention to another great online resource that includes Coventry based items - but this time it's based in Australia, and goes by the name of Trove. It contains news stories, photos, books and even media items. Thumbs up Enjoy.

I use TROVE to find 19th c Bedworth items as many local silk weavers went there. Very good, easy to use and free.
