Thanks for replies and spelling correction. I was chatting with my older sister yesterday evening and she also went, yes it was at the Hippodrome. The whole show was called, I think, Cavalcade of Comedy, with a couple of live comics and short films. Abbott and Costello, Old Mother Riley, that sort of thing. I did think it would have been earlier than early 50s as going to such a show as a teenager would have been damaging to my street cred'.

Gosh! Oh my I went to the Forum to watch "The Lost World" about 1960. There was no bowling there then. Odd, the story as although written in 1912 I believe, in the film, the team were lifted off by helicopter. Back to the thread. Thank you Sue. Cheers

Hello Philip and all forumites Wave I went to the Forum cinema about 1949/50 time to see the film The Brave Don't Cry. It was about coal mining. My uncle was colliery engineer at Newdigate Colliery and my older brother was deputy at Coventry Colliery and I was to become shot firer at Newdigate, coal was in the blood. I have a number of blue scars left by the coal, there was a film called The Blue Scar and I have tried to get a copy without success. I am rambling, Sue tells me off about rambling on and on. So, back to the point. I also went bowling at the Forum and if memory serves me correctly the bowling took place above the cinema. Last night, watched " Rock around the Clock" on the tv. Can't believe it, but clearly never seen it before. Some real jiving which was awesome. But my question is, can some of you remember "The Blackboard Jungle" coming to The Gaumont, presumably in about 1957ish?

Slash1. Do I remember it, Glen Ford. My companion was a school teacher from Stoke girls school, after leaving the cinema she said I could misbehave as badly as I wanted to! Sure I remember it. 'Put another brick in the wall' was a favourite tune in those days.

Also a very early film for Sidney Poitier. Was about teenage delinquents in the States, bought on apparently by "rock 'n' roll". The people were dancing in the aisles. Supposed Teddy Boys and the like ripping out seats etc. Would have been well covered in the Telegraph, I guess. Happened at many cinemas around the UK as well as the States.

Not in Coventry, the manager of the Gaumont threatened to shut off the projector if anyone left their seats during the performance.

Think I must have had a senior turn, 'Brick in the wall' was about twenty years later.

I remember the film 'The Blackboard Jungle' very well, it became a cult movie. The soundtrack featured the song Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley and the Comets as mentioned in other posts. Also mentioned is the Gaumont cinema where I was fortunate to see live in 1957 Bill Haley and the Comets.
