Was there a fancy goods shop, or a jeweller's shop, called Goodwin or Goodwins, central Coventry 1920s?

My mum loved Hogarths and we seemed to be in there every Saturday, I thought the money system was great, we then went over the road to the Gas Showrooms to pay the gas bill. Mum would always let me look in Lines' window (right out of Arkwrights days)

Sad to see class leather luggage dealers BA Brains of Hertford Street has closed its doors. Always reassuringly expensive. I still have my passport holder from 1982, and its still in pristine condition. Apart from Peeping Toms News and the Army Careers Centre, I'm pretty sure every shop in Hertford Street has either changed business, relocated or closed down in the past 25 years now. The Dog & Trumpet was shut for years, and the cake shop Druckers was originally an Elisabeth the Chef pattiserie.

It used to be a trendy gents outfitters in the late 60s early 70s. Bought myself many an outrageously pointed collared and huge cuffed shirt and crazy sized flares from there. Happy days. Big grin

It's a pity because over the years we have bought several leather bags of various types from there, fairly expensive but always very good quality. However, we are about to get T.J Hughes back (not quite the same I know but....)

Sources differ but I think Cooks was on the corner of what is now the Coventry Building Society and the entrance to The Courtyard.

Hi Philip. The shop on Foleshill Road was Swifts Cycles, City Pram only ever had one shop in Coventry
The above is from 1906 .... 7 years after the shop was opened.

Hi all, Wave This article on Agers shoe shop has caught my attention. My mum trained as a surgical boot maker with Ager's, before opening her own businesses in Coventry. It was No 6 in Smithford St, near to the Broadgate end. Wave

Thanks Anne Thumbs up That's the corner of White Street and Ford Street viewed from Jesson Street, in case anyone doesn't recognise it. Barnwells moved to where TJ Hughes is today.
