Rob, Cresswell I believe was the very first Lord Mayor of Coventry, I believe he and a bunch of councillors met some royal person on Coventry Station, the story went that Cresswell fainted at the meeting, I have no idea if the story was true or not but it was a very strong story. |

Thanks for the extras info both of you. Anne, was John Yardley also one of Neil's ancestors? And Kaga, yes, Cresswell was the first of our 'Lord' Mayors - quite an honour - but how embarrassing!  |

I think Cresswell's embarrassment didn't end there.
Around 1953 time Coventry published a weekly/monthly magazine, on the front page was Cresswell's daughter-in-law, her blouse was so flimsy that she appeared topless, this was at the time when 'Lady Chatterly's Lover' was banned from being published as too obscene. |

A near sell-out audience watch Barbara Dickson at the final ever show at the Coventry (Apollo) Theatre.

People woke up in Coventry and went about their business as usual, but mid-morning, the sky clouded over with thousands of planes, people stopped and clapped their hands and cheered.
After the blitz the people of Coventry were very angry but could do nothing really about it, but on this morning they felt they were part of the great armada in the sky over Coventry, it was visible with all its might and the people felt at last they were going to get their own back. It's hard to explain today, but in those days there was a lot of feeling you cannot put into words today. I have posted this before but feel it should be posted again, for this day was a great day for the Coventry people.
