So refresh my memory, when my Dad managed the greengrocer's shop over the road, Jack's I think, and down a bit from the General Wolfe pub. I think we used to call that stretch of Foleshill Rd - up past the Co-op and the Livingstone Swimming Baths - "the Wolfe". As a shopping street. I think my lifelong dislike of beer began walking past the side door of the General Wolfe. The whiff of stale beer and cigarettes stays with me as an unpleasant pong!

As we lived in Limetree Avenue at the time, we were nearer the Newlands pub and as I recall Pearks was more near that end across the road, mind you I am talking about the time in the early 40's and I was only knee high to a grasshopper! Would that have been on Tile Hill Lane ? Just had a look on Google and I can see that the pumps have not been pulled for the last time at The Newlands (yet) and there is a Bluebell Walk leading into the woods. I can see where Rothesay Road is and it is quite a walk to the woods. Glad to see there is still some greenery left in the area.

Thanks for the update Keith, it just goes to show just how quickly and obviously a lot happened to the area after the war years. However, I was rather pleased to see The Newlands pumps are still working ! Cheers Forgive me if I get 'senior moments' now and again. Thumbs up It is gone midnight now down here and I do need my beauty sleep. Goodnight.
