Court 9 was to the left of Cobwebs. It did have some kind of barrier with a narrower opening so... Although the detailing on the older photo is very different.

For reference, Far Gosford Street 1926 with courts. Hi, here's a couple more images, one showing courts 9 & 10 in 1937 and the other showing the Mookow milk bar, a possible reference for location.

58-60 Far Gosford Street Top: 20 Dec 2008 Bottom: 4 Jun 2013 No 58 is a two storey building with an odd monopitch roof with the gable end facing the street. It represents the surviving street-facing portion of what was originally a row of 14 Court dwellings known as Victoria Place and later Court No 9. During restoration, large stone blocks were discovered in the boundary wall with No 59. It is likely that these came from the dismantled town wall and are from an earlier building on the site. The stone has been retained in situ.

It could be either that spot or 74 and court 11. Both have gaps to the side that at some point might have been bricked up. Part way up the road there is a passage with the same arch and filled in top. Lots of the buildings have the brick/tile base to the windows.

This info may have been shared before so I apologise for asking again. I would have been in my early teens when Sky Blue Way was constructed. I recall the small market shop, Riddy's surplus, pub and barbers (Sweeny Todds?) being demolished but what I can't remember is what was removed at the back of All Saints Lane and Oxford Street etc. I have a foggy memory of a long alleyway and brick buildings with huge long windows made from small panes, but that could be incorrect. Could someone please put my confusion to rest Wink

I really can't say. These were on the Gosford Street side. From learning further they may have been for the textile production in earlier years. It was all brick walls and buildings to me. I do think that we lost a lot of history though, it wasn't valued then.

The only alleyway that fits the criteria of tall windows with small panes of glass is the side alleyway running up the back of the BTH from Lower Ford St up to the lane where fireplaces were made. There was a brick wall all the way up adjacent to the BTH being the back garden to the shop on the other corner. Over the lane there was another alleyway that led up to All Saints Lane, walled back gardens to your right (from LFSt) and brick walls to the left. Cannot for the life of me remember any windows to fit the criteria in that alleyway. It always felt hemmed in in that one. Cheers

The fireplaces were made in Harnall Row which ran into Far Gosford Street.

As I wrote prior. My memory is pretty foggy and missing the finer details. I lived in Wren Street during the early 80's and did explore the area but it has all blended into one. Were streets also demolished during the construction of Sky Blue Way? It takes up a large area so it may have. I recently looked at Google street view and hardly recognised the place, so much has changed. It's great to see many of the old buildings revamped and showing their history though. I remember an Indian restaurant called Monsoons near Harnall Lane and ate there many times, now there are huge faced multi-levelled buildings in its place. Progress hey!

Prof That's bang outside the cinema, if I remember rightly. Had some great films there back in the fifties.
