Mick Strong Coventry	1569 of 1655 Mon 23rd Jan 2023 12:24pm This is the Coventry Evening Telegraph special publication (CHEERS) that I have mentioned in a previous post years ago. It was published on March 23rd 1992 My copy is rather tatty now, but inside there are still good pictures and information. The inside of the front cover is the 1884 "Drink Plan" that Annewiggy posted some time ago and contains some of the following: "The Toast of Spon Street" "On the road to London" "Signs of the Times" "Taverns of Hillfields" "Earlsdon Inns" "Taverns of the Towpath" Mick Strong

Helen F Warrington	1571 of 1655 Wed 25th Jan 2023 5:17pm Neil. I'm fairly sure that the inn building was originally 3 storey and at some point it was reduced to two. I'm not sure that it wasn't a much older building that was brick clad. While the west side of Warwick Lane was reasonable covered by images, the top end of the east side, near to the inn was neglected by artists and photographers.

Annewiggy Tamworth	1574 of 1655 Wed 25th Jan 2023 7:37pm Looking through the Coventry Newspapers the council were in the process of buying the premises of the Cheylesmore Inn, Warwick Lane, in 1936 for the purpose of road widening and opening up the view of Fords Hospital. It refers to setting back of the property and improvement to Curtis and Beamish property. In 1939 doors, windows, bricks and hardcore were being sold off the site. Something must have remained as it was destroyed during the war. I don't know much about the building so hope this fits in with what you know.

So Coventry council were knocking down pubs in 1936 to make roads wider. Seems nothing has changed much in 87 years? Mick Strong
