The house I live in used to be a fish & chip shop - but a decade or so before I moved here. But you could still smell the fish when I tried to steam strip the wallpaper. It was not a success. The wallpaper had varnish over it and when you took off the wallpaper most of the plaster came with it. Oh my

Was unsure whether to put these in my gallery or here in the forum. I decided here would be more useful as I know it is possible for members to save images to their own computer from here. Treat them as Creative Commons licence and credit if used elsewhere on internet. They were from a series I took in the early 1980s when the buildings were being reconstructed in Spon Street. There is one of the pics I am not sure about. The one before last may have been flipped in scanning but I have assumed the chap with the hammer is right-handed.

Interesting pictures Pixrobin. The one you were worried about is the right way round by looking at St John's church and the building with the funny shape on top.

Good find Morgana Thumbs up This is the entrance to Buckingham Cars, the man on the left is looking in the window of Fennells next door. The entrance has since been filled in with a shop front:

I am sure that used to be the Sun Sun Chinese restaurant in the 60's It was reported I think for being unhealthy in the kitchen. It was usually packed on a Saturday night. It was the double frontage that made me think it was the same one, but I stand to be corrected. Wave

I may be slightly off tack with this question but here goes anyway. Leaving the city centre, immediately before Spon End Arches on the left hand side is a group of new or near new houses. What was demolished to make room for them? Or was it just an empty space that has been filled in? Norman.

Question

Just old and knackered
