My grandmother used to live in Woodside Avenue and the back garden backed onto the property. I remember going to a garden party in about 1960. Incidently, my grandmothers house first house on the site was destroyed in the Blitz and ironically the house I remember in the 1950s/early 1960s was demolished to make access to the new housing development.

I remember calling at a large detached house just before the A45, I was was working for West Midlands Gas Board at the time, this would be in 1962. I probably called to attend to a fault on the central heating boiler. The lady at the house told me she was Mrs Tugby from Rugby, I believe the family ran a wholesale fruit and veg business in the market. I searched Tugby and came up with a Church of England School in Leicestershire, I wonder if this was anything to do with the Tugby family. Perhaps someone will be able to check if the Tugby family were living there in 1962.

Midland Red Thank you for finding the name and and address for 37 Kenilworth Road, I now know that my long term memory is OK. Was 37 demolished when the new development was built?

On the recent thread topic of the house with the pond - CliffB and I have been in conversation with others over this Coventry Archives image and we think we've identified it as that same spot. Obviously it's pre-A45 but we're fairly certain now that this is the 'Burnt Post Cottages' referenced in Fred's Pub Section. Difficult to believe it's the same spot today but the buildings match up on Old-Maps and it's amazing to think the same pool is visible in what is now someone's back garden today. Again bear in mind that at the time this was all still Stivichall Common and all 'in the sticks!'

It's a rough fit but the map from that area is rubbish and later than the photo. So in the absence of better data I think we can put the two together.

Midland Red, hi! In the last couple of weeks I believe you may have posted a picture of a garden pool in a field, but claimed in garden by a new member but I cannot trace the post, or topic. Do you recall such a photograph? PS. I have just recovered from a small stroke in my brain, believe it or not.

Sorry to hear that Kaga. Hope you recover ok. Was the photo black and white? There's an aerial shot of the pool on post 3 of this topic but the area is nothing like Neil's picture now.

Same direction as the photo Neil Thumbs up What I can't decide is if the half timber cottage is gone by the time the map was drawn or if the perspective on it is deceptive and it's further away from camera than the cottage on the right.
