Is that worse? Looking at the bottom end of the model, it appears to have a proper link between the Cathedral Quarter and the Precinct. At the moment the link is quite poor and Cathedral Lanes is probably a barrier and prevents flow between the two areas (and the side of Cathedral Lanes pedestrians walk past has no frontages). How would this 1962 plan have dealt with the County Court? As that route shown would probably run straight through it? Interesting to see a tower in Broadgate.

I don't think that's worse, just not really much better. It appears to leave more of the area in front of the church open, although the buildings that would have been there look oddly out of place. West Orchards (and I do mean WO this time!) does appear to just be a massive car park though, so that is worse.

West Orchards was a car park when I first came to Coventry. It was demolished pretty quickly after I arrived. When I first came to Coventry there was local "uproar" over the demolition of the old library, and then the demolition of the old barracks building on Queen Victoria Road (I think that's the name of the street.) And I can remember the absolute horror of that canopy. It seems to have been a constant thing since I've been here, council demolishing the city and people not really wanting it demolished or just not caring. I wish they'd get rid of that ramp at the top of the precinct. Surely it's no longer required? Looks far better in the picture above without it.

Old post cards of Coventry. I thought other members might add any of theirs. One on this link I've never seen before of Jordan Well prior to what is there today. Click bottom of page back to Hobbies other parts of Coventry.

In the picture of Jordan Well, what I assume is the Mattock & Spade public house appears to have a barber's pole attached to its frontage.

The photo of Top Green on Warwick Road reminded me of a small building we demolished there. There was a lot of marble in it, but I never knew what the building was used for. Any ideas anyone? Roll eyes

It was not that near the road Cliff, it was near the back of the green and a bit nearer town. To put a date on it I would say 1960s and I think the Toll House went before that. I guess it could have been a small pavilion maybe.

These postcards are wonderfully evocative, some views I have never seen before. What a wonderful site this is to conserve such treasures of a lost Coventry,
