Yes the Walsgrave had a number of programmes based there. They have had a number of film crews on the streets of Coventry with the A & E crews, one crew with Heli med and there was one based in the Casualty Dept as well.

I posted some time ago about the Everyman TV programme on the History of Weston Street, Hillfields that was filmed in the late 70's. Still hoping that one day I might find someone who has a copy as my gran and great Aunt were interviewed. Now that Hillfields is changing so much it would also be fascinating to see again

I worked at the Rolls-Royce Ansty factory for many years and sometime in the 80's a film crew arrived to record scenes in our drawing office and stores for a TV film called 'Mirage' based on the French jet design and the plans stolen in the form of industrial espionage. The actors, which included Ian Holm, were filming for a week and went into the canteen every day for a lunchtime drink! I did watch it when transmitted but unfortunately I can't find any mention on Sir Ian Holms's 'Wikipedia' link.

Hello all, I watched the final episode of 'Love & Marriage last night (having missed the first 2 or 3) I wasn't terribly interested in the storyline, more in the locations! With the exception of the obvious ones, which areas of the city were used for the house locations etc. and is the fancy dress race in Broadgate real or just fancy! (Sky Blue Sam - I remember him from the sixties!)

The main character also mentioned proposing to his wife outside the chip shop in Hipswell Highway. My guess is the houses are in Earlsdon somewhere

Did anyone see "Arthur's Hallowed Ground" on Film4 yesterday, filmed in the grounds of Courtaulds club which later became Mercia sporting club. Was lovely to see the way that it used to be. I could see the tree which stood in my garden when I lived in Guild Rd and both the chimneys still standing at their full height. I was 9 when that was filmed and remember it well. You can even see the old Matterson's place on Kingfield Rd Smile

Hi SkyBlueRocker, Wave I did not see it last evening, but Jimmy Jewel was the groundsman. That was the film we were talking about, Midland Red on Friday. What a pip! Wave I remember the film being recorded in the early eighties, at the Courtaulds sports ground & club house. I also saw the film on tele when I was staying in digs in Cramlington about 1987. Wave The thing is Midland Red, I had got Jimmy Jewel correct as well as the Courtaulds cricket ground (that Warwickshire played on a number of times) but all the other details I had got totally mixed up, almost like the pickles in the pickle factory with Hylda Baker.

On 14th Jun 2012 11:09pm, NeilsYard said: The hospital drama 'Angels' was based at what's now The Royal Court Hotel - previously Keresley Hospital.
I'm sure that some of the nurses in Angels lived in a big house in Lythalls Lane opposite the top end of King George's Avenue. I remember seeing a view down King George's showing the large building (inc clocktower) of British Celanese (Courtaulds, Little Heath)

I was always told that 'Angels' was filmed in a spare ward at Walsgrave Hospital on an unused floor. It was quite possible for a big hospital to have mothballed facilities which would only be used in times of war or major catastrophe.

Hi all Wave I understand that three locations were principally used for the nurse drama series, two in London as well as in Coventry. Courtaulds had guest houses in Foleshill, as well as one in Glasshouse Lane near to Kenilworth. Both of these locations were used on occasions, along with the main hospital ward buildings as described by "Not Local". Wave

Well, I didn't expect to see this! Someone at work wondered if I'd seen it on the telly, which I hadn't, but thanks to the wonder of YouTube we are able to catch up with an unexpected and irreverent look at Coventry Market, thanks to, of all people.... Harry Hill !! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pMh-i31VZCE

Great entertainment! There could have been some potential rivalry if Middlemores were still around and Joe Lycett was related to the Lycett Saddles family (both B'ham).
