Hi johnwright. According to the archives, the William was built in 1837 at 1059 Foleshill Rd. Don't disagree with anything that you said or the map. Are you the John Wright I went to college with in the late 60's? (apologies if you are not that old) Regards Mick

Hi Mick. Don't apologise, I am that old!!! But I didn't go to college unless you mean Longford Park Secondary Modern, Windmill Road, Coventry!!! I believe that The William pub is now an Indian Restaurant. I know of the William because it was my father's local.

Does anyone that used The Greyhound in Much Park Street during the 50's and 60's remember Mrs Arnett the landlady?

Kaga. The map DOES show the location of the William IV pub but it is not labelled as an Inn. The map shows Foleshill Rd labelled as Little Heath Rd and an Inn [The Wheatsheaf] and a Timber Yard immediately above the Monopole Works. Opposite the Wheatsheaf is shown a jetty and dotted line which is Bacon's Yard leading up to Booth's Fields. Next to this is a building that is not labelled as an Inn but is clearly the location of the William IV. The line of the canal is clearly shown and the brewery is definitely over the cut and next to another unlabelled pub [The Royal Hotel]. John Wright. The map is dated 1912 and William IV reigned between 1830-1837. I doubt that they would wait for around 80 years before naming a pub after him].

Derrickarthur That jetty opposite the 'Sheaf', I'm sure there was a bicycle wheel shed/factory sometime in the early fifties, that we went to a fire at. Any ideas?

With two more modern photos in the Pub section, it's interesting to track the changes over the years. Thanks CliffB

Hi Annewiggy, could be, but I thought you may have seen some of the B on the 3rd lamp along? I wondered if they spelt GAS, but again, I thought you might see some of the G
