Unusual view of Trinity St/Hales St corner prior to buildings that most of us were familiar with.

I would be interested to know what year that was taken Prof. As you say an unusual view. Thumbs up

Yes, it would have to be around 1937, give or take a few months, as Trinity Street appears to be just beginning.

Dreamtime, I would think nearer '35 time as they have hardly started the re-build. Wasn't that two-tone van Walls Sausages? And look at the tall buildings 2 row in Hales Street, and just how much they took off that corner.

Prof. Oh my, now I can see why I could never see the church or Broadgate from the tram, those tall buildings blocked everything until you swung round the top of Ironmonger Row. Those tall buildings spread all the way up to Broadgate and across to New Buildings - look how clever they were, they even made Hales Street seem longer. All the lanes that crossed to the Burges were open to the sky, the little cobbled yards just wide enough for a cartload of hay, overhanging upper floors, balconies, horse troughs - there was a wealth of history in that hub of Coventry before you got to the vegetable market. I was being unruly one day, and whoever had hold of my hand snatched me back and said "You see that tall chimbly (chimney), well there's some steps inside and little naughty boys like you were made to climb up them and get out the window onto the roof" That shut me up! Somewhere was the bull post - the little windows and the low ceilings made the shops dark. Heathite, I did wave from the tram but you did not wave back, but thanks. Thumbs up
