I'm not gonna argue with Helen! Big grin I think the taller building on the left is the same one in the centre left here - you can see the same chimneys Forum library image

Oh do! Lol There are lots of the city that I know nothing about and certain views changed rapidly just before the war. Mostly I've concentrated on the oldest images and missed the ones before streets were destroyed. Hertford Street is one of those areas. It's also easy to mistake an image of pre war demolition with bomb damage. The odd building had a cousin on Cross Cheaping but it was demolished to build Owen Owen. Thumbs up

Thanks Anne and Helen and Neil. I can't make out the top of the building at the back left of the picture. It seems to have hardly any structure? Enlarged I now think could be a telegraph pole in front of the building top left.

In the last picture about the middle of the row you can see some tall chimneys that are also in the bombed picture. Strange how chimneys remained when a building was bombed, like staircases I suppose, my mum was always going on about sitting under the stairs when the bombs were dropping!

I have a question. What is the structure in the right hand corner? The large cylindrical thing.

If you go to post #151 on the Hertford Street thread, I raised the same question - and there was quite a lot of discussion in subsequent posts Thumbs up

Chimneys are left because they are built with firebrick, or lined. They don't burn.

Hi Prof, I don't know if it's another Coventry church but it's not the cathedral. It's tagged as such on Pinterest but at some point someone was guessing. Are there any other candidates?

I think you are right Helen. To begin with I thought it was Christ Church but that was much smaller inside and here there is a substantial tower in the background. Perhaps it should go in a mystery picture (Mods?) pro tem to see if any ideas surface?

Well pointed out MR. I've been through the library photos and nothing leapt out at me as a candidate.

I think that it's the Temple and Holy Cross Church in Bristol.
