Not as far as I know Dreamtime, I'll try to find out. There's always been swans here while we've lived in Cheylesmore, apart from when the pool was drained, so tagging would make sense Wave

Thank you OL, I hope they are as they would be well monitored wouldn't they. I think it is lovely to see them with their young. Wave

Took this as I passed today unfortunately I had to shoot towards the sun. There's still five left but as they grow it's getting difficult to get them all in a single shot. White patches are now starting to show in their feathers. Still haven't seen any sign of the parents being ringed though.

I noticed today that they've began to demolish the sheltered accommodation block on Quinton Park near the pool, I think it's actually EbbwValeTerrace. Talking to some of the neighbours the people who were living there have mainly been moved to nearby Eric Inott House. It had become difficult to get people to move in because most of the bathrooms/toilets are shared and due to the age of the building it was cheaper to demolish it than to bring it up to modern standards. There doesn't seem to be any plans to build anything else there as far as anyone knows but it does leave the the bungalows somewhat exposed as I believe they were originally short term prefabs.

I drove past a week or so ago, and I note that the pool is still there, although it's not quite a big as I remembered it as a kid. Does anyone remember the incident, years ago, when an old chap taking his dog a walk, found a dead body in the water and rushes at Quinton Pool? (Have you noticed that, whenever a body is discovered, it's usually by an old chap taking his dog a walk very early in the morning? All down to the dog's enhanced olfactory nerves, I suppose.) Anyway, it was a woman's body, the wife of detective, who lived locally, or so I was told by an old school pal who lived nearby. She had been missing for 3 days, and they "tried to keep it out of the papers", but without success. Police said "there were no suspicious circumstances". One of my old friends was in the police force all his working life (Thames Valley). As a cadet, he had to accompany a colleague in a missing person case. They had to cut down the naked body of the man, hanging by a rope from a beam in his loft. A similar thing happened to a young Tory MP more recently. In such cases, police invariably state "there were no suspicious circumstances". Heck, if I came home and found a naked man hanging from a rope round his neck and tied to a beam in my loft, I would say it was bloody suspicious! Oh my

The offspring are nearly as big as the parents now, they were just going down to the pool for their early morning swim.

I don't know the age of anyone posting about the Daventry Road and Cheylesmore but my wife lived there in the 40/50s, she has asked again if anyone remembers the playing area between the shops that they called the bumps, before they built the shops in the middle. If so and you played there anyone remember the Cottom's girls

Sheila Wilson lived near to my mum's shop in Cannon Hill, and was a friend of hers. She started doing the mobile catering business, then opened the restaurant Sheila's Kitchen in Daventry Rd. Only went there once, and it was excellent. I believe she carried on the mobile catering; she did all the food and stuff for several of my parents' family gatherings. I presume she has now retired.
