Hi all. Next to the Rocket pub by the station is a small row of shops, a prontoprint, sewing shop etc, and above them are residential flats. Would anyone know the history of this small block, or what the flats used to be used for? Thanks, Ted |

As a boy, I regularly used the barber's called "DAN'S" |

For as long as I can remember the flats have always been residential.
Would love to know myself when they were built? The architecture suggests late 1950s (Donald Gibson). A long search of http://planning.coventry.gov.uk/ proved to be fruitless. The earliest reference I could find was for an alteration to a ground floor office in 1964.

I remember it much earlier than that, and I've just trawled the GPO Telephone Directories - Dan's first appears in 1946! |

Thanks Cliff.
In that case it's probably pre-war when planning permission wasn't required but probably after 1929 as pictures from that year show much older buildings plus mature trees in that part of Warwick Road.

Not quite the Central Buildings (though they do appear on my 1950 map so earlier than I thought!) But I must've missed this one from CD before. Its looking North towards town - I think Central Buildings would be just out of shot to the right. The cobbles are possibly the turn in to Parkside garage. The long property across the road would be No.47 Warwick Road with No.2 Eaton Road behind. Today that spot would be the turn in to the Station off Warwick Road in to what is now the realigned Eaton Road -
