How sad, Flap. Quick google found this: Artist Dies. Perhaps we should pass this on to the council to ensure we don't lose Trigger. Back to the development and I agree it will loosen the stranglehold the Ring Road effect gives which is a positive.

I really can't see that working. The only real way to get from Warwick Road to the Ikea junction would be via Spencer Road/Spencer Ave/Albany Road/The Butts - and I don't know whether you've travelled that route lately but there is no way could it cope with that volume of traffic. Oh my

I think you'll use the existing ringroad sliproad to get down to the IKEA junction, not side streets. Smile So if you want to go right from Warwick Road, you'll go down to IKEA and go round the roundabout and go back.

I think you are right flapdoodle, I didn't realise that the slip road at junction 6 would remain open during the development. I've now got the full details of the diversion and the final layout. I'll post them tomorrow when I've had chance to read them. Thumbs up

During development (commencing March 2014) Vehicles travelling INTO the city via Warwick Road will be routed down the slip-road at Junction 6, to the next Junction (7) then along Croft Road by Ikea. Those wishing to come OUT of the city along Warwick Road (or access Central Six from the city centre) can only access Junction 6 via it's slip-road from the ring road travelling a clockwise direction. (i.e. from the direction of No 3 in the plan) After Development (Spring 2015) Vehicles travelling INTO the city via Warwick Road will continue along the current route. Those travelling OUT of the city will need to access J6 from the ring road via a slip-road from either direction. Access to J6 directly from Warwick Road (at point 4 on the plan) will be restricted to buses, taxis and bicycles - and controlled by a camera (like the one installed at Stoney Road!) Here are the plans for the new junction - the existing layout is indicated in red, existing road is dark grey and new road is light grey. Numerous 'Friargate' newsletters are available from here, although the latest seem to be dated last July! Sorry if due to forum restrictions the above plan may be difficult to read - if anyone would like larger copies of these (3 x .pdf files, total 4.2Mb) please email me via my 'Contact' button on the left.

Everything will either have to use J7 and turn right at the end of the slip road or J5. I think the entire plan is a cobbled mess and ill-thought out. I've heard people say this will be the start of the removal of the dominance of the ring road, but I think it'll help maintain it. It'll be such a farce no-one will be willing to try any more changes for a generation or more. I've always felt the ring road was 'too' connected - everything into the city centre has to cross a junction (and usually sit in the traffic for ages leading up to them) and the slip roads were so close together its ridiculous. The ring road should be connected at around four junctions, with these leading to the major routes like the A45, A46 etc and the roads connecting the two sufficiently wide to prevent the tailbacks we see. The minor junctions like Quinton Road, Radford Road and White St that effectively only lead to suburban areas shouldn't be attached to the ring road at all, and should just lead directly into the city centre, splitting the traffic into those wishing to bypass the city centre and those wishing to enter it. Trouble is, this is one of those main arteries to the A45, and so needs to be connected properly to the ring road in all directions. If they were going to have a go at altering it they should have chosen a lesser used junction, and why I thought the Swanswell Boulevard was a great plan - it kept the ringroad largely unaffected but showed it didn't have to totally dominate.

Those plans posted by TonyS make more sense than the picture in the telegraph but not by much! I just wonder what the queues to get into Central Six will be like in the run up to Christmas! I can't see it aiding the flow of traffic around that junction.

Todays report in the Telegraph regarding another "camera protected bus and taxi gate" being installed "on Quinton Road approaching the ring road" is inaccurate. What they are actually doing is linking Park Road to Quinton Road (at the moment Park Road is a dead-end with a pedestrian subway at the Quinton Road end) and making the access from Park Road "buses and taxis only". It is this new junction that will be protected by a camera. I only hope that the powers that be plan to put yellow lines along the length of Stoney Road as at the moment, with parking on both sides, it is due to be the mother of all traffic jams with traffic trying to get away from the Station at night Oh my Work is actually due to start on Junction 6 on March 22, and last until June 2015.

They couldn't find occupants for that office block that stood at the corner of Warwick Rd and Ringway Queens, but now they propose building a dozen blocks that size. Can that make sense in a recession?

Thumbs up BTW, I have heard back from the Council to say the horse sculpture will be removed, have some minor repairs carried out then put into storage while the work is being done. They have yet to inform me where and when it is being replaced. Just to lighten the load, there are some extra Brownie points on offer for the first person who can guess the "name" of the horse depicted in the sculpture? (Please mark any replies as CHAT) Big grin
No one seems to have remembered that the horse has its own thread Oh my

Great, Flap - is it me or is there some kind of record going on at the moment for the number of simultaneous road works and roads closed in the Ring Road / Earlsdon area.
