Local Coventry football leagues & teams

After leaving school and joining Wickman. I was asked to join their football club that at the time played in the Coventry Works League on Saturdays. One of Wickman employees ran the Dolphin Pub team in the Sunday league, and I also joined them. I remember the Sunday league had six divisions at one time, mostly playing on "Parks" pitches Later, playing for Canley Club, who played I think in the Coventry & District League? Looking back there were a few different local leagues for amateur teams, and I'm sure many forum members must have played in one of them at some time or other.

Mick, many many years ago when I was a "nipper" in short trouser my Dad used to take me to watch a team called "Thursday Early Closers", it was made up of shopkeepers who in those days closed all day or at lunchtime. I think if I remember correctly it was run by the chap who had the barber shop at the bottom of the Foleshill bridge on the Holbrooks side. Don`t know what league, if any, they where in.

Thinking about it, Canley Club played in the Coventry & North Warwickshire league.
