I shall keep trolling the internet and any antique shops I come across looking for a timepiece with Coventry etched into it. caomhinsean@gmail.com

I'm pretty sure thats the court/row of buildings left where the Watch Museum is today on the right.

This is the south side of Spon Street with Crow Lane/Ring Road off to the left of the picture. The Windmill from this direction was directly to the right of Rotherham's. The museum is too far east.
I think that this is the likely front block on the map.
View of the street front today. |

Hi Neil, see changes to my previous post. But essentially they aren't the same place.
Rotherham's, bottom left of this BFS pic.
The sketch is very idealised. |

I seem to remember that my dad worked at Rotherham's, maybe in the 50's. Were they making something else at this time? He worked at several factories, ending up at the Alvis on the Holyhead Road. |

I recently noticed the R Gilbert shop in Broadgate had a Waltham sign on it, which was a surprise as I knew they were an American company. I found out that Gilbert also used Waltham movements in their own brand watches, as well as local Coventry movements and others.
I then found out that Waltham was founded by Aaron Dennison, who when he left Waltham came to England and founded the famous Dennison Watch Case Company in Birmingham!

Hi Osmiroid
I'm a bit of a watch nerd, and, after having seen your post, I did some research on Waltham and Dennison. I hadn't realised how important Dennison was, and, sadly, like much of quality British industry of yesteryear, ceased to exist in the 1960s.
However, the brand was revived in 2015, but I can't find any of their new products on the net. |

Belushi,
That interesting to know they have been revived. I have got an old Coventry Astral watch with a Dennison Case,

Stanley Terrace is mentioned on this thread - I don't think I've added this one before - The Terrace in its final days. Was it the Gas Explosion or Bus crash that saw them go?

Queen Street properties with top shops. 1953. Possibly a site of the watch and clock industry in Coventry? Needs confirmation.
