We've had images of the old row containing Embling's on this thread but not this one before. This is the section that was later moved to the eastern end opposite St John's -

This one from FB purports to be Court No.7 aka the Watch Museum -
.....although it does look like the one labelled as Court 38 which was North side on CD:

I would put it as court 38 too Neil. Behind the Dyers Arms at 152. Actually strictly speaking it's behind the property next door to the west, but the pub's easier to find.

And one more from a Scott Duffin slide - I think this is Spon Street where Watch Close is with work going on behind to start the Ring Road - St Osburgs visible behind that -

Pretty sure we've seen this image before, however it's been brought to life being colourised by Mark Tattam on FB and I'm adding here for the additional detail from the Spon Street side of The Plough Hotel -

Next in the series © Elizabeth Tyler. I'm adding here as it looks suspiciously like the rears of Gosford Street however putting it out there if we can confirm -

Brilliant thanks Helen. I was looking at Watch Close as well with the archway through to the Street. Does some of that kind of exist now - it's right by where the building was moved from MPS isn't it?

Brill - I keep forgetting about the Historic England collection. Thanks again and I have passed on wishes to Elizabeth (as well as sending her our forum info!)
I've updated the image the correct way around

Wow, superb picture.
Far left under the arch was the access to Fennells' yard with the music shop already demolished.
My mother and grandparents lived in a house located in the yard.

Thank goodness this didn't go ahead - apparently as part of the Spon Street Conservation Area - although they did move several buildings from Much Park Street - there was a plan for that to include Whitefriars Gate!

Ok, question for all you folk out there that have access to all manner of material ie maps, detailed drawings, archives....
A) When did Fennells vacate their premises 157/8/9 Spon Street and relocate to Lower Precinct?
B) Is there a record of a dwelling situated in the courtyard at the rear of said premises?
