Hi all, I made a return visit to the Toby (Craven Arms), a bit later in the day this afternoon, just to see what was what. Very good, served by Charlotte today. Of note was their care for a disabled party, wheelchairs & folks needing a bit of help & understanding. That was brill. Always bearing in mind that we are not an advertising site, or a Michelin guide to gastro delights, we are asked for recommendations from members from time to time who are planning a visit to Coventry, so if you visit a dinning out venue that serves you well in Coventry, please give the venue a mention. In the new year when eating out can sometimes go a bit flat, maybe we can list within categories, that we can maybe test out. Out of politeness, whenever I mention the name of a venue employee on here, I ask their permission. They are usually delighted. Anywhere, just like me, can have an off day, so I avoid negative comments, the venue just doesn't get a mention.

As a matter of interest, does The Chestford Grange still operate ? As you can imagine it's been a few years since our last visit. !

Hello Dreamtime, Yes, changing its name I think, but back to its original. I've not been there for decades. Been passed it, cannot make any comments. It may have become the Chesford Lion, at one time. Pam & I went to a wedding reception there & the retirement dinner for a Coventry Greengrocer, Jack Bond. That was all about fifty years ago.

These are all excellent points, especially the one about asking the server if it's okay to use their name, and you're quite right about the flat January period.

The Craven hasn't been the same since Wing Commander Brian Dorset left, along with his trusty Flight Lieutenant, Maggie. (Said completely tongue in cheek)

Thank you Philip, The Chesford, was a favourite of ours (in our courting days) Gosh, do they still call it that ? It was always the time when we used to dress for the occasion and feel like a 'couple of swells'. Along with the Old Mill. Thumbs up

I can remember in the mid 70's being a member of the 1812 club that was at the Chesford. You got a plastic key ring with your photo and membership number on it.

I've never been a gravy lover, Anne. In stews I'm ok, but that snack at the Toby (Craven Arms) yesterday was fabulous. Yet I love curry & curry sauce. I've always been odd!
