Hi All, I'm posting here on behalf of the Heart of England Community Rail Partnership. We engage people with the railways, promote sustainable travel, help to beautify stations and educate young people on rail safety, and do other community engagement work around the local railways. We are doing a Community Day at Coventry Station on Saturday 9th September with lots of free activities going on. We are trying to put together an interactive educational display about the parcel depot that used to exist at Coventry Station. I had found out about this by chance and thought it was a really interesting piece of local history, but haven't been able to find out much about it. I wondered if anyone on this group remembers the parcel depot, or has any information about it? So far I have gathered that the parcel depot existed before the new station was built in the '60s, but I think there was also a parcel platform running in the new station. I would love to hear from anyone who worked there or knows anyone who did, or even just remembers seeing it. We have a call out going on to gather any stories or memories people have of the parcel depot (image below or link here http://bit.ly/parcel-depot), but please let me know in this forum as well and discuss below if you have any information to share Smile :

Hi Madeleine and welcome. Not sure about the depot myself but there is some great info and photos of the old Station on the excellent Warwickshire Railways Website

The parcel depot was on the far side of the main passenger entrance. There were about 8-10 vehicles based there which delivered parcels in Coventry and Kenilworth areas. It was separate to the Goods Depot in Warwick Rd. Each Driver and vehicle had a regular run and a particular dock and parcels for the run were put into the corresponding dock.
