No MR, what I meant was, library in the foreground. It did have a turret. Now I see the building in the foreground is probably the canteen for bus staff.

How different did High Street look when it was an actual street! ('71)

John Manners was where I started work as a Saturday boy aged sixteen. I then moved with them full time shop assistant to the brand new store on two floors in the Upper Precinct. I was there until eighteen leaving to go to college in Bristol.

Like this view from Dean Nelson on FB, especially of Martins Bank and those temporary shops. Many similar shots but not see this one before.

Dated 1937 - Not sure I'd seen this one before? Was that just a Gaumont Ad on Wingrave's old Shop?! Was this the remodelling/rebuilding of that Turtons/Martins Bank building Rob? I think it is! Worth adding to the dedicated thread as well possibly.

Thumbs up Neil. This was the image that made me wonder if the bank was rebuilt or remodelled but the different brickwork says that the building was indeed demolished.

Yes Helen - you can see the roof tiles are off ready to all come down. They did better rebuild jobs then though didn't they!
