My Dad was railway mad and during the 70's & 80's and possibly beyond, he was a member of the Coventry Police Steam Society. Now, if my memory serves me right they used to meet in a room in Little Park Street Police Station.
My Dad wasn't in the police, so I think the society was open to anyone
Apart from their regular meet-ups, they used to organise coach trips around the country to various railway related places.
At the time I was a teenager, but I did go on a few with my Dad when they caught my interest.
I remember one of them was to Woodham Brothers' scrapyard in Barry.
Has anyone every heard of this society? Or was a member of this?
He was also a member of the GEC Model Engineering Society in Copsewood, which may have changed it's name, but is still an active society.

Fantastic, so it started in 1973. Well found Anne
I reckon my Dad was a member fairly soon after it started, although he wasn't a policeman.

Ron Owen who is mentioned in the newspaper article passed away many years ago. I knew someone who was involved in the society and I have a recollection that there was a connection to the Shackerstone society, now called The Battlefield Line.
