Old Grammar School

As has been mentioned in another thread my great great grandfather ran The Turks Head in Silver Street between 1862 and 1874 when the Grammar School owned the original building. It cost him £19 10s per annum. The school sold the building In 1882 (the current pub there is a rebuilt building from 1934). I will be approaching the Council and developers for the school works to see if there's any documentation from this - maybe even g-g-grandads' signature!

Thanks for that Neil, The old Grammar School has always fascinated me over the years and now to see what's been revealed it's now more interesting.

Hey, it's alright joking about it, but you never know, do you Gangan. Some grisly murder committed and body hidden. Bit late for DNA testing methinks. Just think, someone is walking around whose ancestor has just been found in the old Grammar School.

Thank you Morgana, I have always wanted to know what it was like inside. If only those walls could speak.

Glad Dreamtime you now can see inside. It looks the same from when I used to go inside each week in the late 70s, early 80s to buy at the jumble sales from charities, lovely to see the old black seat benches are still in there, Dreamtime, I just hope they clean them up, shame full they've let them go in this state, they used to be clean. At least I can say I have sat on one having a drink from there, not sure though if it was the naughty seat I was sitting on.

What a fantastic old building. Looking at the interior I can only admire the great craftsmanship involved on the carving and joinery on the old pews. Bet they could tell some stories. What's the latest plans for the building?
