Salem Baptist Chapel was once a ribbon factory. Over the road opposite, in Hurst Road, are the weavers cottages.

Hello everyone. My great grandparents lived at Oaks Yard, Longford which I believe has long since gone. My grandma Ellen Greenway married a William Britton and they lived on Forknell Ave, Wyken. My nan Ellen left school at 13 to work in a sock making factory - would that have been Courtaulds?

Hello Gladeprincess. Wave My first school was off Forknell Ave. Hope you have a happy time sharing memories with us on here. Wave I am struggling to find where Oak Yard was located. I have found people's baptism certs where they are living in Oak Yard. Can anyone help, please?

I may be mistaken but I think Oaks Yard was at the side of The Griffin Inn at 140 Longford Road, just down from the Skating Rink and the Billiard Hall (are they still there?). I spent most of my mis-spent youth in both establishments.
