This is a photograph of a model Scammel Scarab in British Railways livery for those who cannot place the vehicle

Then you'd like Reliant Robins then. I owned a Robin for few years because I could drive it on my motorcycle licence. Because of their light weight (bodyshell of fibre-glass rather than metal) they were tricky in cross-winds. Snow was a problem too. 4-wheeled vehicles tend to create two tracks and leave a pile of snow between. In a Robin you had to plough your own furrow. Big grin

Hi all Wave There are several of these Scammell lorries running around Hall Brooks most days. The one here is being loaded at Bramble Lane, with boxes of cycle parts from Nottingham.

I remember a pop lorry with crates at an angle along both sides: the brand name was Alpine. They sold dandelion and burdock, and pineapple, as well as standard lemonade. Never lasted two minutes in our house since we all had a big glassful!

Benthall-kid, Alpine Soft Drinks were delivered from a base in Chelmsley Wood on the edge of Birmingham - the pop came in various technicolor colours and flavours - just what kids wanted.

Does anyone remember the Davenport's home deliveries in Coventry in the late 60s, early 70s as we had a delivery once a fortnight of 2 crates of Macky, and all of a sudden they stopped

"Beer at home means Davenport" Wasn't that the advertising slogan?

Hi all Wave End of the road for Davenports beer - 2010 We are able to include this Birmingham brewery in our Coventry forum section as it was very much a part of Coventry. The safety curtain that fronted in our now demolished Hippodrome, proudly advertised Davenports Beer at home, right next to the advert for P Blamire motor cars. Besides, my parents had Davenports delivered to their home, as indeed I did to mine right up until they stopped deliveries.

Oh well, since somebody dug out this ancient thread, here goes, Does anybody remember "Alpine Pop" that we had delivered to the doorstep in Bassett Rd, seem to remember we took four bottles of garishly coloured fizzy concoction at a time - early 1970`s. Then we moved to Scotland and my wife made enquiries and contacted the depot there and discussed the resumption of the service to our new address. "Oh yes, nice to hear from you, no trouble at all madam, but it won`t be the same recipe as you got in Coventry - we have to make it sweeter for the Scottish tooth"

TOOGOODS seamed to be the life blood for a lot of families in Tile Hill and Canley. There were not a lot of car owning families in the early 50's and he was certainty appreciated by a lot of mums. I used to be fascinated by the brass weights he used to weigh out the spuds on the large scales he had. If he was in a good mood he would drop an extra one in. The photo was taken in Page Road Canley.
