Within the past few days a local author named Jean Field sadly passed away. Although I'd never met her personally she was apparently a lovely person with a great sense of fun and extremely passionate about local history, especially sharing it with children. I have one of her books - a super biography of the famous and charismatic Coventry and Warwickshire historian, Mary Dormer Harris, the bulk of whose work was carried out around a century ago. I think the world will be just a little bit duller without people like Jean in it.

I was given a book by Mary Dormer Harris -The History of Coventry with illustrations by Albert Chanler. It is dated 1911. The person who gave me the book had found it in the attic when they moved home.

That's a super little book with lovely illustrations. You were very fortunate to receive yours like that - I think I had to pay about 20 quid on eBay for my copy!

I have read some of it but it is hard going due to the wealth of information that the author provides.
