When I was a kid in the late 40`s early 50`s, I used to get my hair cut at a barbers at the bottom of the Foleshill bridge (Burnaby Rd end). I think its still a barbers even now. The owner used have something to do with a football team which consisted of people who in those days closed on Thursdays. Not sure if they where called Foleshill Early Closures or Thursday Early Closures. My dad at the time was a bakers roundsman, who at the time did not work on Thursdays. He used to take me to see them play against other amateurs from other areas and I recall sometimes teams from the Army or maybe it was the Territorials. Perhaps others can expand the topic.

Half day closing on Thursdays. I remember that because my mum used to have her hair done on those days and I had the joy of a knickerbocker glory from the Milkbar in Gosford Street after school, being Folly Lane.

I used to go to Hazel Hathaway's Dance Studio above the Moo Cow after it moved from Hillfields. Never was lucky enough to have a Knickerbocker Glory, though.

Linda I like pulling together images from peoples recollections - this one just popped up on FB thanks to Dean Nelson (mods add to the Far Gosford thread if you like!) Shows the Moo Cow and also Hathaway's Dance Studio above as mentioned -

Thank you so much for the photo - not a bit glamorous and I hated going. I used to walk up from the city to save the bus fare for sweets. I stopped going when I was about ten. I took the bus from Radford and then walked the rest of the way. My parents would be charged with child neglect these days but my free run childhood was marvelous.

Oh, The Moo Cow. Thanks Neil, you have reminded me of my Knickerbocker Glory days - with the long spoons. Thumbs up

I think this is the same'ish view today - with the Bridal Centre being above the Archway.
