Hi everyone My partner and I live on Norman Place Road. We'd love to know a little more about the history of the road and area. Is there an area already on this site discussing this sort of thing? I'd love to see some old photos, I don't seem to be able to find any online. James

Hello Jamesk and welcome back. Looking at the old maps of the area (1930's) Norman Place Rd was not there. It links Hollyfast Rd to Brownshill Green Rd, I am not sure about the name and how it came to be called that. Birch-field, and Maple-ton are trees, Dun-croft as in Woodland Croft also gives the idea of trees in that area before the building started. Someone on here will know. Hope it helps a little. Cheers
Always looking forward to looking at the past.

My auntie said it used to be a farm - here is a link for you. I originate from Sadler Road and I always knew it was part of farm land. Normangreen is mentioned - scroll down to general history, third paragraph.

Does anyone know where the Bassett Nursing Home is/was? In the 1940s it was a maternity home.

Yes, my younger brother was born there in 1947. It was at an address in Bassett Road, off Three Spires Avenue, Coundon.

I have been looking for old photographs of the Coundon area from the 1970s, 80s and 90s. I'm particularly interested in pictures of some of the old shops which used to exist on some of the street corners. Many of these have now been converted back to housing. I've been told that there used to be a video shop on the corner of Southbank Road / Evenlode Crescent, called "Video Den" in the early 90s. Also, that there was a cycle shop on the corner of Evenlode Crescent / Lavender Avenue. I don't know the name of this shop. I was wondering if anyone might have pictures of these they would be prepared to share? Lol

Carrs Motor Accessories still exists on the corner of Redesdale Road and Evenlode Crescent.

Hi Jay, I'm going 'home' to Cov next week for a few days. My wife's youngest daughter lives in Evenlode Crescent, I'll take a look around the two locations you've mentioned and see what changes have occurred and post some images of what they look like now if you want, but sadly I have no pictures of what they once looked like.

Hello; I'm Jay. I had to change my username as I got locked out of the email account I was using, and couldn't reset my password. Nevermind. Thanks for the offer to photograph what those premises look like now, but I still live in Coventry, and know what that area looks like at the moment! Smile I believe that the two premises I referred to (The "Video Den" and the cycle shop) were still there in the late 80s, early - mid 90s. Like I say, if anyone has any pictures which show those shops, I would be interested to see them.

Hi Jay, welcome to the forum. Wave While someone may turn up with something useful, it might take a while. Another avenue (pun not intended) might be the work the Herbert is doing for 2021. They're cataloguing and eventually digitising a much greater range of images that have been donated over the years. There is a search of some of the Herbert's collection but I don't know how up to date it is. Coventry Collections Advanced Search

I have had a look, but it's not very user friendly! I will persevere.

Hi Livewire, see post number 2 of the thread Coventry Bicycle Shops. Could this be the shop you're referring to?
