I don't know if anyone can help, I have a picture of the chimney/tower of J&J Cash weavers of Coventry 1857. It's in a frame 10in wide and 38in long, by Falcon D Hildred in 1981. I have looked this up and the artist is well known for Industrial design, born 1935, so whether he was commissioned to do this I don't know. I have looked up the building but cannot find pictures or anything else out about the chimney. I could up load a picture if any one wants to see it. Many thanks and I look forward to your reply. Hello Clare & a warm welcome to you. Wave The chimneys that I remember as being of that kind of design were Websters Bricks (still standing), Courtaulds old boiler house (knocked down after blitz damage). I can't think of a 'Cash' chimney, but I am sure someone will on here. Best wishes. Philip.

Having looked through the canal conservation documents a year or so ago, there are quite a few chimneys still standing near the canal, including one near the old Cash's factory, just up from the Electric Wharf eco-houses, but it's quite plain. I can't help feeling that chimney looks very, very familiar and Courtaulds keeps springing to mind, but maybe my mind is playing tricks with me.

It is definitely Cash's chimney, the two at the brickworks are just plain right to the top and not ornate like the one in the picture.

It is Cash's chimney. We had a talk about the history of the firm a few years ago and a similar framed picture was on show. Fantastic brickwork.

Can you remember who gave the talk? Also are there any publications about the history of Cash's?

Not off hand, I can't. It was an ex-employee but can't put a name to him. Will ask some questions at the weekend.

Thank you for all your posts, the picture now belongs to the Heritage museum, so if they do a section about J & J Cash any time you could see the picture in there Thumbs up

I recall seeing on eBay a chimney like this on a postcard which was for sale. Just at the rear of the Cash's weavers cottages, now houses and flats, was Courtaulds - now houses are built on there, Threadneedle Close, which they thought they would have to knock the houses down at one time, as they thought poisons had seeped into the ground from Courtaulds which the houses are built on. The photo from Dutchman from the position of that chimney would be where Threadneedle Close now is, as my daughter lives in one of the ribbon weavers houses of Cash's. So perhaps it was Cash's chimney as it states and then Courtaulds had it. Coventry Neighbourhoods - Foleshill

You probably know this, but the best place to buy new ones are direct from the factory, online. I bought some lovely Christmas cards for my family about 4 years ago. I'd seen them in a shop and couldn't afford them, but was able to buy them direct for almost half the price. They arrived within two days, as well!

Thank you, Anne. I know the factory is in Torrington Avenue but I didn't know you could buy them straight from their factory. I shall look on the net, thank you Cheers
