You need Alan Godfrey Maps Rather small but good resolution. We stock some of them at the Bedworth Heritage Centre. Have sold hundreds of the 1923 Bedworth map. Current prices are £2.50 each.

Have a look in Foleshill library (in Broad Street). I have had all of their old local maps out over a period of time and they date 1912. The rack is just inside on the right. Hope this helps.

I have found reference to a map that I don't know anything about on 'British History Online', in the 'List of Streets' section. It's described as 'Coventry Map 1837', (C.L.) it must be quite detailed as it's being used to confirm loads of names of streets. But I have never seen a copy anywhere and wondered whether anyone knows anymore about it. However, I have just spotted an unusual, genuine 1837 boundary map being auctioned on e-bay but it hasn't got enough detail to be what I'd call a 'street plan'. Footnotes referring to an 1837 street map

Fire Insurance Plans of Coventry, 1897

A boring subject heading you are all thinking, I am sure! Don't be put off though Roll eyes However, I came across this marvellous collection of City Maps, so detailed and so useful, they mark pubs, factories, businesses etc. Perfect for all our research work. There's also a 'Plan Guide' for all the abbreviations on the maps,( which are about 11 in total), numbers of windows, storeys, type of roofing etc. I'll link the one page and the'Key list' and help yourselves to the rest. The zoom facility is great Thumbs up Insurance Sheet 2-1 Key to the Symbols on the Plans Listing of all the Coventry Plans

What a wonderful find Foxcote, I am sure those maps will answer a lot of people's questions. They certainly show the extent of industry in Coventry at that time and the jobs that must have been available.

Thanks both, I can certainly see the potential, however, I am slowly figuring out all those symbols on the chart, concerning the construction and plan of the buildings, have you zoomed in on that, incredible detail when you crack the coding Wave

Thanks Helen, so glad that you will find them useful. Not much work done here today, I can tell you! I have been looking on and off all day, comparing old photos and getting familiar with those hieroglyphic symbols, it's a new dimension that ties in with the Census records and newspaper archives and has really helped me with the locations. Leave you to it then Wave

Hi mcsporran, I read that the maps appear to have been revised up to 1959 and not mass printed for the public. A great find for all of us!

Just bringing this into view again because the link has great maps - but does anyone know of old larger scale maps for the Westwood Parish area (Canley, Tile Hill, Whoberley, etc)
