Hotchkiss were French armament manufacturers who built a factory in Gosford Street during World War 1 because one of their French factories was in danger of being captured by the advancing German army. After the war the factory produced engines for Morris Motors and was subsequently bought out by them to become Morris Engines. The original factory was much extended and is of course still there today as part of the university.

The Historic Towns Trust map of Coventry here. Not bad at all, although I disagree with a few bits.

That's a pity. Sad I tend not to use it because I already know where the images come from.

It's on the Wayback Machine so it should not disappear completely. (Bit more searching shows it redirects to Humap so maybe not)

Just to let everyone know - I thought I'd reach out to the NLS content creators for their excellent site and mapping. After talking to Ben recently at the archives it made me realise many website owners are not fully aware of the users they have and the potential use of positive feedback to hopefully keep some of these sites going so I passed on Thanks on behalf of the forum - Hello Neil, Thank you for sending the positive feedback.
