I have recently noticed that at the end of Strathmore Avenue with the junction of Gulson Road, that a couple of houses have been pulled down and it is now a green area. It has obviously been like this for sometime, as there are trees growing there. Does anyone know, just out of curiosity, why these houses were pulled down?

Hello Slumber Wave Three houses Nos 31-33 Gulson Road were demolished in 1979. No reason is given in planning records. In 1982 there was a proposal to erect advertising hoardings, this was rejected. In 1986 a car park was built by the council and the area landscaped. You would not believe the number of committees and consultants involved in the landscaping proposal. I suspect they cost far more than the landscaping itself!

Prof, would that still be the hospital on the right or was it gone by then. The glass thing on the right reminds me of what they called the solarium which was on the end of the childrens ward I was in when I had my tonsils out. For some reason they kept me in for a month but my brother was out in 2 days. Never found out why!

Yes Anne, I am sure that was the hospital as, so far as I know, nothing was built on the site after demolition till much later, and I think mostly car park for Coventry University now.

This was Sage Ward dayroom/nursery. I trained and worked there for 4 years.
