My great grandad, born 1832, was a Stoke man, as were his parents. In the 1841 census, the family lived in Sharmans Nob.
I can't find this on any old maps, but I believe it may be somewhere between Ball Hill and St Michael's Church.
Can anyone help, please? |

The 1841 census entries either side of Sharmans Nob are Stoke Row and Church End. |

Well done MR
Stoke Row in 1887
Church End is St Chad's to the southeast. There were small tracks heading to the main road and St Chad's. Assuming that the two places are the same as the modern places Sharman's Nob might be the small collection of houses on an east/west road with the school just to the south of Stoke Row.
Incidentally the place called the Cottage later became a club which may be relevant to one of your other questions. Alternatively The Old Red Horse was a pub in a small hamlet to the north of Stoke Row. |
