Hello, I'm looking for my grandfather's family, it would be cousins since he was born in 1893. My great grandmother lost her 3 kids and they were sent to Canada with the Middlemore homes. I was wondering if someone would help me find some living cousins. I'm curious to know what happened to her once her kids were taken away. My great grandmother was Emily Brown her parents were Daniel Brown and Ann Cooke. She was born Dec 5 1869, had 5 kids, 2 died in her care and Thomas Sheridan Brown (1892), John Sheridan Brown (1893) and Ethel Brown (1898). Since I'm living in Canada it's a challenge to locate living family members in the UK.

Hello! If you go on to the Genes Reunited UK search boards and ask for information, there are a team of volunteers who will help you free. I was adopted as a baby, in Coventry, and they helped me a lot with my family tree. Good Luck! Thumbs up

Hi,Newisland, There is an Emily Brown in the Ancestry records who died in 1909, born c.1868, in Coventry. There is no other info available that I can find about this death to confirm that it is the right Emily. Do you have an Ancestry account? I see a descendant in Canada of Emily & Thomas Sheridan has set up a tree on Ancestry. In what year were her children sent to Canada? It seems that Thomas Sheridan was a tailor, and he is listed as married on the 1901 census but not, obviously, to Emily. He is living alone but still shown as married on the 1911. I cannot find Emily on the 1911 but she could have died, married, or have had her name mistranscribed. It seems that Emily grew up in Spon Street and there is a T. Sheridan lodging at an address in Spon Street on the 1891 census. His profession is tailor but his birthplace is shown as Coventry (Leeds in all the other censuses). Emily seems to have had several siblings too. In any event, there is a sad story here. If I can be of any help to you, please let me know, and good luck in your search.

I'm slightly confused here. You say Emily was born "Brown", but you also say that all her children had that surname. Does this mean she never married, or did she marry a Mr. Brown? I have found the burial plot for her parents. They are buried in square 138, grave 75 in the London Road Cemetery. Daniel was buried in April 1880, aged 57 - Address Spon Street. Ann was buried in January 1906, aged 75. Two addresses are given for her - 22 Rugby Road Leamington and 59 Cromwell Street Coventry. There are three young children buried in the same grave. Emily Ann Brown aged 7 months, buried April 1852. John Brown, aged 2 years, buried November 1859 and Edward Brown, aged 4 years, buried January 1869. All Addresses are given as Spon Street. I imagine that these three children are sibling of your great grandmother. If I can be of further help please contact me.

I assume you've been on the site for the Home Children that were sent to Canada - LINK Are you primarily looking for descendants of your grandfather's siblings? Sending an inquiry to the organization whose website this is may be your best bet - apologies if you've already tried this avenue. It's possible you can find descendants of Emily's many siblings, and some may know the story. I hope your grandfather found a loving home in Canada. It seems that many did not.
