Arnold Palmer Putting Course

I wondered whether anyone could help in my search for information about the Arnold Palmer Putting Course that Coventry once had. They are the crazy golf courses with rocketships, windmills and watermills usually painted in the original red-and-white colour-scheme, seen around seaside resorts. Coventry's may have been Britain's first but, like the others in major cities, was demolished at some point.

Hello Peter There was a course very much like the one you describe at the Memorial Park but I don't know if it's the one you mean?

Thanks for the early replies . I did see the War Memorial Park topic with dutchman's memory of a crazy golf course. And if it's similar to the ones I described then It's almost certainly the same one. Coventry's was mentioned in Tilting at Windmills by Andy Miller, and was believed to be the first built, in 1965, but Southport's is also mentioned as being from 1965 on their scorecards, and I found a copy of the operators' manual which says that the Southport were the first Arnold Palmer Putting Course assosciates in the UK - which would make Coventry the second. The same family own the Southport course today. Would that date fit in with your memory of it? Most were built in the '70s, apart from the much later one at Bognor Regis, built in 1994 just after the company closed, and unnofficial 9-hole copies built in Butlins and Haven holiday camps in the '90s.

Hello!!! I recall a Pitch and Putt Course at Memorial Park. It might still be there, but not a Crazy Golf course??

It was in the narrow fenced-off area next to the Kenilworth Road, along with the miniature railway and pony rides.
