Hi all Wave Did you mean like these on this little urchin. I was five when this picture was recorded at Stoke annex school in Wyken Grange Rd. The teacher was Miss Dickson, a truly dedicated teacher. I used to think that she was a dragon at the time. Will this coax you to put your pic up? As awful as they were, at the time they did what they were supposed to. Wave ps. I had a patch over my right eye for a few months.

When I find the photo I might. As you quite rightly say they did what they were supposed to do. I have had to wear glasses ever since

Ah Philip you haven't changed a bit, what a cute photo. Wink I too wore the dreaded National Health specs for a number of years as a child. I did have a plaster patch over one eye as well. I had a really prominent squint and had to go regularly to Gulson Clinic for remedial exercises. Eventually I was operated on at Bramcote Hospital and was able to leave my specs off. I have a picture of myself somewhere, looking gorgeous (not) in my NH specs. Roll eyes Not sure if I can remember how to upload onto the forum, been so long since I last put a photo on! Cheers

In the centenary year, 1989, Sal (Sally) Turner published an illustrated book about the hospital simply called 'Gulson'. Sal spent 21 years at the Hospital as maternity nursing tutor.

I have included this post on this topic in case someone has a good story to tell us about the DREADED DENTISTS, in hospital or otherwise. I would add, I have to be dragged in to one screaming and kicking even to this day. Oh my

Does anyone memember the school dentist clinic at the Gulson Road hospital? I only went once, it put me off going to the dentist for years. Sad

Yes Tricia I do. I fell during a PE lesson at school and cracked a tooth. The head sent for my mum and she had to take me there. Fortunately they didn't have to treat me. Thanks for my birthday card x Thumbs up

Bite on the black rubber chunk and then a vile smelling rubber mask was put over your face and you breathed in deeply and went to sleep. When you woke up. you had lost a tooth and was violently sick (well, I was). Hated the dentist, but now as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, I tell my clients that dentists don't hurt you, teeth do, and it's true.

Right on Dreamtime, my recollection of the last time at the dentist in Gulson clinic is having a needle the size that should have been used on a Shire horse shoved into my gums, then being told I should not be like a baby because I passed out. Dear God, I was 6, I was a baby. Very caring staff, lol, I just wish I could have returned the favour to them in their uncaring way, I would really enjoy that, even today. I am starting to grow horns so had better stop here. Wink

That's what I meant TonyS when I said about having to pay for the pain. As if the pain wasn't bad enough. But you do pay anything to get rid of it. They are a pain when we are born and also later on. Grrrrr. Roll eyes
