Yes, although the golf course was private, so normally out of bounds, when golf was snowed off, they unlocked the gates to let everyone in. I suppose everyone would have got in even if they hadn't unlocked the gates! Nothing kept me and my mates out, not even barbed wire, high walls with broken glass on top, or signs telling us to keep out. It was red rag to a bull - a challenge. |

Anyone else ever go newting? We used to go to the pond in the field at the back of Ten Shilling Wood. It would have been near where WMG and Westwood Business Park are now.

Mick
I also went newting. My father had an allotment which was on the opposite side of the signal box by the bridge in Lythalls Lane.
There was a pond adjacent to the allotment which was full of newts. I notice you referred to Hey Engineering in a previous post, I would think the pond was at the side of these premises. The allotments were accessed from a gate on the bridge. I wonder if it is still there.

Did anyone else make long arrows out of their dad's garden canes?
We used headless nails as the point, split the other end with a cross, made flights out of stiff card and then used knotted string to throw them with!
