The old Butts College, built in 1933-35, according to Pevsner in his "Buildings of England, Warwickshire" is "conservatively classical with a big portico".
The building itself is therefore not Art Deco. |

I agree Belushi, the building is not Art Deco. Apparently it was designed in 1913 so a bit early for Art Deco, but built in the 1930's so by that time the inside had Art Deco features. So perhaps I can have 1/2 a point for that! |

The balconies top and bottom certainly have that look but the roof looks a bit Dutch. |

The Hertford St. building looks a bit 3rd Reich with Greek columns. |

Lots of questionable buildings in the previous posts. But I must admit there were a few art deco gems among them, more than I realized Coventry had. Mostly I remember the cinemas and the pubs. |

I drove down Daventry Road during the week (nearest HSBC branch now) and noticed some of the houses on the left have rounded bays. Thought these might count?

Mick, when I moved into Cheylesmore in the early 80s many of those windows still had curved glass in them. As double glazing became common they were replaced with two or more flat panels. A pity really as the curved glass looked great. |
