One of my interests is Art Deco buildings. There are several good sites on the internet showing images of such buildings around the country, but rarely have any been in Coventry. One recently turned up of the old Odeon/Gaumont cinema, now the Ellen Terry building of Coventry University. The Toll Gate pub is sometimes shown as well. Apart from a few 1920/30s houses spread around the city, where else can we see Art Deco buildings in Coventry?

To a certain extent I believe Trinity Street is Art Deco, although it's lost most of the features that would have placed it as such. You might have to consider areas outside the centre for remaining examples.

The old Standard Triumph building in the Birmingham Road at Allesley looks Art Deco on the outside, but looking on the internet appears to be a nondescript factory on the inside.

Oh how I adore Streamline Moderne, the international style now known as Art Deco. Sadly the too few examples that existed in Coventry city centre have befallen the demolition ball and chain, namely the Coventry Theatre, the old Gas Showrooms and a number of cinemas. I would have to sit and think to recall others that are long gone, I'm sure other forumites can come up with examples. I would agree with Helen F that elements of Trinity Street could be described as Moderne in style, so too are parts of Quinton Parade. Annewiggy is correct, the Standard building on the A45 is a wonderful example of art deco. The recently demolished Fletchamstead pub was another, the horrific facade hides the gem that was once the Standard cinema just a stones throw away. The Tollgate, The Phantom Coach, The Wallace pubs have all got elements too. The Technical College in The Butts is a wonderful building (go and look inside and marvel). The Rialto Plaza building in Coundon, the Gaumont cinema, not forgetting the Redesdale and Ritz cinemas. Look closely and you'll find plenty more. Enjoy. PS and if you want to travel a little further and I know it's not Cov, moderators, is the fabulous railway station in Royal Leamington Spa.

Do the Forum and Savoy cinemas qualify? Or have they been destroyed?

Most definitely Argon. Good call. Like I said, other forumites will come up with more examples. Thumbs up

Would the houses on the A45 just before Green Lane qualify?

I think there's a 1920's building hiding under this lot somewhere.

I'm not sure Mick. I think you may be referring to the houses which I think were marketed as Sunshine Houses? An art deco house at the bottom of Kenpas Highway close to what was The Harvester was demolished in around 2015 as it had fallen into a state of disrepair.
